Body fat scales/monitors and body mass index scales are not returnable.  Any warranty or performance related issue must be directed to the manufacturer who's phone numbers are listed below.  The manufacturer will exchange or replace any defective merchandise.  You will be responsible for the shipping cost to return the unit to the manufacturer.  Under no circumstance will the manufacturer or Precision Weighing Balances offer a refund since all sales are FINAL.  Scales returned to us with be refused and returned to the sender.  If an item is damaged in transit UPS will recover the parcel and a replacement unit will be issued once UPS has paid the damage claim.

In reviewing the returns for body fat results we found the returned scales to function properly for us.  In most cases we assume the problem with the customer's body fat scale is lack of proper education on the capabilities of body fat scales.  These scales compute body fat using an algorithm partly based on water content in the body (age, gender, height and weight are also variables factored in the algorithm) so it is best to use the scale the same time under the same conditions.  If you wake up in the morning you don't want to use the body fat monitor after the 2 cups of coffee and muffin and the next morning right out of bed after urinating.  You need consistency of the variables that effect the water content in your body/bladder.  You can read about optimal conditions for measuring body fat percentage here.  In some cases poor performance is due to the physiological makeup of their body - i.e.. callus feet, dehydration, over-hydration or diuretics.  Please review frequently asked questions about body fat scales to learn more or call the manufacturer who's phone numbers are listed below for additional information about their particular body fat scale.

There is no machine or equipment as of today to determine the true body fat for living people.  People have called saying they where tested in a tank and the body fat results are different verses what the body fat scale shows.  In all honestly if your still living to talk about your tank experience then you really did not get your true body fat reading since there was still oxygen in your lungs since your alive today to talk about it.

The only true way for one to determine body composition is to submit a corpse to a forensic scientist where they grind body tissue to determine body fat.

What you can do with body fat scales is monitor the results.  If the results using a body fat scale say 22% body fat, but somehow you really know at that minute your body fat is 17% the issue is to monitor the trend. The body fat scale reads you at 22% and you want to see if your body fat is going higher or lower than the 22%.  Bottom line is the body fat scale is just one tool in monitoring your health and it is the trend that is the vital issue.

We apologize for imposing this policy, but the margins are extremely small yet the cost of shipping goods is very expensive when dealing with returned merchandise.  Customer's in the past have demanded the ability to return goods unconditionally and we have seen many of these businesses following this policy go out of business.  When retailers are selling at great discounts and take everything back from the customer there just isn't the money there to operate and eventually they go out of business.  Customers need to take on some of the risk and in the unlikely event they receive a defect they will need to return the goods to the manufacturer.  We are an Authorized Tanita, Terraillon, MSI & Salter Dealer and they will stand behind the product for replacement. 

We pay freight coming in from the manufacturer and prior to imposing this new policy had to pay the shipping of any returned scales back to the manufacturer.  In addition, there are staffing resources required to handle the return, calling the manufacturer for a return number and then making sure we get credit for the return.  In many cases the freight charges involved with a single return exceeded our profit margins thus requiring us to sell 2 or 3 scales to cover the expenses of handling just one unit returned.

People get very upset when the scale does not display the results they expect and get extremely upset and immediately blame the scale.  Many times they compare the weight results with another scale they may have hanging around the house, over the neighbor house or even their doctor's scale.  Almost all the electronic bathroom scales on the market today use some type of loadcell design using a strain gauge.  Each time a weight/load (person stands on scale) is applied to the scale the loadcell is fatigued and distorted and over a period of time scales will weigh incorrectly since the loadcell eventually will lose it's original shape (learn the scale language here).  Therefore to compare the weight results with an older scale really isn't a good measuring stick.  The manufacturer's we represent make hundreds of thousands of scales and seldom are the inaccurate out of the box.  Many times the problem is people don't have the scale on a hard surface - maybe on the carpet which can act like a shock absorber.  The only true way to test a scale's accuracy is with known certified calibration weight.  If in the extremely unlikely event your scale really is inaccurate you will need to send the scale back to the manufacturer for replacement.

Please thoroughly think out whether purchasing your body fat scale is worth the savings you get verses buying from a brick and mortar business.  Many sporting stores have demo units in the store for you to try before you buy.  For those frugal consumers looking to get the most for their hard earned dollar it may be best for you to visit one of the sporting stores before purchasing the unit from us.  We need to stress there are no returns accepted.  Some stores have similar policies for people purchasing camcorders (use for that birthday party or special family event and then return it for full credit) and large screen TV (purchase for Super Bowl Day and then returned to the store).  Bottom line is returns cost businesses money and when your working on low margins the customers needs to give up something and take on some risk.  If the body fat scale you purchase just doesn't seem to work for you all we can say is it would be a great gift for someone else you might know.  In the unlikely event you wish to dispute the credit card transaction this web page will be used to stand behind our no return policy.
